Delays in federal highway funding have Iowa officials concerned

In the same way that state highway funding is important to Winneshiek County and the City of Decorah, federal highway funding is important to the Iowa Department of Transportation.

But members of the Iowa Transportation Commission, meeting in Decorah Monday afternoon, said they're nervous about delays in re-authorizing federal highway funding.

October 29th is the deadline to re-authorize federal highway funding.  State highway officials say Congress has been talking about renewing funding "real soon"--for the last five months.

State highway officials say it's likely Congress will pass an extension of the current highway funding--but no one seems to know how long the extension will cover.
