Nashville-based filmmaker Jonathan Rattner on Wednesday night will speak about his upcoming project—"Driftless: A Film About Decorah by Decorah."
"Our aim is to make a crowd-sourced documentary about Decorah by members of the Decorah community," Rattner says. The film will be shown at the 2016 Oneota Film Festival in March. Rattner says the film will feature "short videos, shot by community members on smartphones, featuring a person they care about doing what that person loves or finds interesting."
Rattner is an assistant professor of cinema and media arts and art at Vanderbilt University. He is visiting Decorah for a six-day residency through Sunday. In addition to working on the film during that time, he will visit Luther classes in communication studies and the visual and performing arts and he hopes to meet with other community and school groups as well.
Wednesday's program will begin at 7:00 p.m. in room 206 of Luther College's Valders Hall of Science. Following Rattner's comments about the upcoming Decorah film, Oneota Film Festival we will screen the documentary "The Interior," Rattner's new film about "January, Alaska, 56 mushing dogs, 4 humans, 5 hours of sunlight." The program will conclude with a Q&A session hosted by Luther College assistant professor of communication studies Thomas C. Johnson. The event is free of charge.
