Postville resident Tyrone Wilson has been sentenced to seven years and three months in prison for the May 12th robbery of the State Bank in Calmar.
U.S. District Court Chief Judge Linda Reade imposed the sentenced Thursday in Cedar Rapids, ordering Wilson to undergo 500 hours of drug treatment. She also recommended he be enrolled in a vocational training program for heating, ventilation, air-conditioning, welding and electrician skills.
In addition to the time he will spend in prison, Wilson will pay restitution for the bank robbery. Court records say Wilson has already paid $1,000 of the fines. Now he has been ordered to pay a total of $539.34 to bank staffers for lost wages because of the bank robbery.
Wilson had been in custody in Cedar Rapids leading up to Thursday's sentencing. Judge Reade ordered him to be kept in custody and eventually placed in a prison facility close to his family.
Winneshiek County authorities say Wilson entered the State Bank around 10:30 a.m. on May 12th . He asked for money, took it and then fled the building, eventually being captured by police in Moline, Illinois.
