valuepenguin.com says Decorah is the safest of the 70 cities in Iowa

The website valuepenguin.com has just released results of a survey of Iowa cities of 8,000 people on up and has ranked 70 cities in terms of safety.

The number one safest city in Iowa, according to the website, is Decorah.

ValuePenguin analyzed the most recent FBI Crime Report to come up with a "crime score."  The average score for 70 Iowa communities was 2,126.  Decorah's score--the lowest in the state--was 351.

The website adjusted its crime score metric for population, taking into account both the amount of violent and property-related crimes per 100,000 people.  Johnston finished 3rd safest on the list, while Waukee was 5th safest.  Orange City and Denison also made the top five safest Iowa cities list.
