In "Old Business," on Monday night the Decorah Community School Board voted to not move forward on a Director of Special Education position that Superintendent Mike Haluska had proposed last month. The board, with minimal discussion, cited "lean budget times" before they voted. However, they expressed hope that many of the meetings required of Principal Rick Varney related to Special Education could be assumed by other staff.
The board also deferred further discussion on the potential purchase of land for a new bus garage. Last month the board discussed purchasing property but felt they could not accomplish purchase and construction before the end of their current three year bus garage lease. Superintendent Haluska said he would report back to the board as he attempts to negotiate a new lease for less than three years.
