The Decorah area's community orchestra, the Oneota Valley Community Orchestra, is getting ready for its second season concert series: "Bigger and Bolder".

"With the energy still flowing from our inaugural season last year, I am very excited to get back to work with the OVCO," says Music Director Matthew Cody.  Cody says the group is picking performance pieces that speak to everyone and bring in new audiences of live classical music.

The orchestra is based in Decorah, but it serves the residents of Northeast Iowa, Southeast Minnesota and Southwest Wisconsin.  Cody says the orchestra currently has openings for: violin, viola, cello, bass, and percussion also needs substitutes in other sections.  There are no auditions nor dues required of OVCO members.

OVCO will perform three concerts during the school year.

The November 1st program will include "Bacchanale" from "Samson and Delilah" by Camille Saint-Saens; Mozart's "Violin Concerto #5 in A major" (the "Turkish"), with guest soloist Jonathon Winter and Dvorak's 9th Symphony "From the New World".

The March 13th program will include Johann Sebastian Bach's "Brandenburg Concerto #4" and Aaron Copland's "Appalachian Spring," orchestrated for chamber ensemble.

The April 24th finale concert will include the Prelude to "Die Meistersinger" by Richard Wagner and the "Unfinished" Symphony #8 by Franz Schubert, concluding with Ludwig von Beethoven's "Fifth Symphony in C minor.".
