Former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee, speaking Wednesday afternoon to around 75 people at Chase the Adventure in Decorah, did not mention you-know-who by name during his comments, but stated, "This is no time for someone who has never worked in government." Huckabee said there are too many challenges facing the country to have someone who is "untested" be president. "The easiest thing is to go to Washington with gasoline and a book of matches and burn it all down."
The three-term governor, author and former talk show host said the country is losing its sense of optimism, its sense of hope and its sense of a promising future. The U.S. has lost the respect of other countries, said Huckabee. "Our enemies no longer fear us, our friends no longer trust us." He criticized the Iran weapons treaty, asking "Why would we help load the gun that is pointed at our head?"
As for domestic issues, Huckabee called Common Core a "disaster," called abortion "genocide" and said amnesty for illegal immigrants "is an invitation to people to continue to do things illegally."
Huckabee asked for those in attendance to caucus for him next year and said he now has the largest campaign organization in Iowa.
