9-1-1 Board wants to buy property from the Decorah School District to put up a new tower

Decorah Community School Superintendent Mike Halsuka says the proposed $1 sale of a small piece of school district property to the Winneshiek County E911 Board would help both parties.

The Decorah School Board has set a public hearing at 6:00 p.m. September 14th regarding the proposed sale of the property located on Twin Springs Road.

Says Haluska, "Because of the location, the 911 board asked if they could purchase that property for the purpose of putting a 300-ft. tower on it to increase their capacity.  They will also be putting in a concrete 'bunker' to house all their equipment in a climate-controlled environment.  In exchange, we'll be able to put our bus antenna much higher, increasing our coverage, and put our equipment in the bunker, giving us a better 'climate' for the electronics.  We'll also have access to our orchard which lies inside the fence."
