"Decorah Scarf Project" is supporting anti-bullying efforts

Posted: Thu, Aug 20, 2015 6:01 PM

A community group is beginning the "Decorah Scarf Project."  The goal is to create 100 rainbow colored knitted scarves which will be in turn given out to Decorah community members who pledge to do something to curb bullying in the community.  Organizers say the project combines awareness and education and is a visible sign that people support anti-bullying efforts.

Volunteers are being sought who are willing to knit a rainbow colored scarf.  Yarn can be bought at the Blue Heron Knittery in Decorah.  The business will hold teaching sessions Thursdays from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Sundays from noon until 4:00 p.m.  Completed scarves should be dropped off at the Decorah Public Library between September 15th and September 31st.

At 6:30 p.m. Thursday October 1st at the Decorah Public Library bullying prevention specialist Brian Juchems from the Wisconsin-based GSAFE will speak.  At the end of the program community members who take the pledge to do something to end bullying will be invited to take a scarf to wear.
