"From Underwear to Everywhere: Norwegian Sweaters" exhibit opens at Vesterheim

A new exhibition opens Saturday at Vesterheim Museum in Decorah.

"From Underwear to Everywhere: Norwegian Sweaters" celebrates the iconic Norwegian sweater.  There will be a free reception and gallery talk from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Saturday.

"Nothing says Norwegian quite like a Norwegian sweater," says Vesterheim Chief Curator Laurann Gilbertson,.  The new exhibition will focus on the history and different styles of Norwegian sweaters, including Setesdal, Fana, Marius, and Olympic.  It will also describe the symbolism behind some of the patterns and colors on sweaters.  Another part of the exhibition details both the technology and artistry of making the sweaters.
