For the sixth time in eight years, the Iowa Challenge Cup for Class 3A high schools in the state will again be sitting in the trophy case at Decorah High School.

The Iowa High School Sports Network awards the Challenge Cup to recognize Iowa High School students for academic excellence in the classroom and outstanding achievement during state competitions.

It's a combined, statewide, year- long competition among all member high schools of the Iowa High School Athletic Association, Iowa High School Music Association, Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union and the Iowa High School Speech Association. A separate winner is determined for each of the four high school state classes.

"After an outstanding year both for our fine arts and athletic programs we are extremely proud to win again for our community, school district, teachers, coaches and most importantly our students," said Decorah High School Activities Director Adam Riley.  "The fact that athletics, music and speech are included in the scoring process, make this award a very true reflection upon the success of all students in our entire activities program and the excellent community support we receive."

For having the highest performance in Class 3A in Iowa, Decorah High School will receive a Crystal Challenge Cup to be permanently displayed in the school, as well as a $1,750 cash prize to be used towards enhancing academic learning.
