With the popularity of the Decorah Eagles' nest, traffic on Pleasant Avenue and Siewers Springs Road has increased sharply. The road was already in poor condition before the higher traffic levels.
Now the City of Decorah is taking a first step in fixing the road. The 2015-2016 Street Program approved this week by the Decorah City Council adds work on Pleasant Avenue to a list of other projects that had already been approved.
As part of a $339,141 bid from Skyline Construction approved by the Decorah City Council Monday night, the old surface on Pleasant Avenue will be removed this fall. City Engineer Lindsay Erdman says that means the road will have a gravel surface during the winter, unfortunately, but it's a first step in an overall plan that calls for the city and Winneshiek County to redo the road to the Trout Hatchery.
