The American Legion of Iowa has given the NICC Foundation a $2,000 grant to support scholarships for student veterans for the 2015-2016 academic year.
The money will be used to provide two to four veteran students with $500-$1000 scholarship awards.
NICC serves approximately 135 veteran students, spouses and dependent children each year in credit programs at the Calmar and Peosta campuses. Although veteran students receive educational benefits through the Veterans Administration for their military service, the funding often does not cover all student expenses.
In 2015 NICC was awarded a "Top School" designation by Military Advanced Education. It was also named a "Military Friendly School" for the fifth consecutive year by G.I. Jobs, an online resource for U.S. military personnel. The "Military Friendly Schools" designation honors the top 20 percent of colleges, universities and trade schools that are doing the most to embrace America's veterans as college students.
