The new Director of Raptor Resource Project, John Howe of Minneapolis, tells decorahnews.com that the organization already has plans in place that will lead to the eaglecam being back on the Internet next year.

Interviewed from Dallas, where he was leading a safety training session, Howe told decorahnews.com that the restoration of the eaglecam is "the number one priority" of Raptor Resource Project for next year.

To get the eaglecam up and running again, the group is using several approaches.  First it will build a starter nest near the ruins of the second nest that blew over in a storm this summer — and then wait to see if the eagles adopt it as their own.  Secondly it will watch the eagles to see where they begin nest building, if not at the starter nest or at the first nest, and put in cameras right away, before the eagles would abandon the nest because of the activity.

Howe says RRP also has a back-up plan.  A new bald eagle nest cam will be installed in September at a location Howe says the group has agreed not to disclose in order to protect the property owners.

Howe tells decorahnews.com that he plans to be in Decorah during the work, alongside a number of other Decorah volunteers.
