Winneshiek Medical Center Hospice will begin offering a support group in September for those who have had a loved one die within the last three months. The group begins at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, September 9th, in conference room B1 at WMC. Registration is not necessary as the sessions are free.
"The Newly Bereaved Support Group will be touching on basic coping skills, self-care, what to expect, what is normal, and reassurance that everything can be okay," says Licensed Master Social Worker Karen Nielsen.
"The needs of the newly bereaved are different from those who have been grieving longer. These sessions are designed to provide a framework for the grief path," says Nielsen.
The grief support group is safe and confidential. Participants will have the opportunity to connect with others by being able to share their experience with loss and to express their feelings, reactions and thoughts with others who truly understand what they are going through.
