A judge has ordered a Decorah woman to be sent to Waterloo to serve time for a case involving more than $107,000 loaned to her by two Decorah women.
Decorah resident Christina Gray is serving five yearsprobation after receiving two consecutive ten year prison sentences that weresuspended.
In 2012 Gray pleaded guilty to first degree theft, first degree fraudulentpractice and commission of unlawful activity for borrowing $97,200 from LindaHenning of Decorah and not paying it back, as well as for borrowing $10,200from Jane Bullerman of Decorah and not paying it back. Gray allegedlytold the two women she had cancer and needed the money for medical expenses.
Now Circuit Court Judge John Bauercamper has ordered Gray to be sent to the "Women's Center for Change"in Waterloo as part of her probation. Bauercamper ordered Gray sent to the residential facility as soon as a bed opens there and to stay there until she "receives the maximum benefit."
Charges were filed in December of 2013 that Gray had violated probation. Judge Bauercamper did not rule in favor of that charge but ordered Grayto continue repaying the $107,400 she took from the two women.
The Waterloo facility is described as a community-based corrections setting that offers the court "an alternative between street supervision and incarceration by providing a structured residential environment for both male and female offenders."
