Clearing the News Desk #1: That enormous American flag

After the Clear Lake Fire Department loaned the Decorah Fire Department the use of its giant American flag for Nordic Fest--and after we posted a photo and a story--Corey and Lisa e-mailed:

"That flag is awesome!  I think the Decorah Fire Department should have their own.  How much does it cost and who is interested in pursuing or donating to it?  I think you would be surprised how many people would donate for it."

Thanks, Corey and Lisa.  We checked and learned the Clear Lake Fire Department's American flag is 20 feet wide and 30 feet long.  A flag of that size is going to cost roughly $1,000.

That's a fair amount of money, but not an impossible fundraising goal.  Maybe the VFW and American Legion would be interested.  Does anyone else have any ideas?  e-mail news@decorahnews.com
