The 49th annual Nordic Fest kicked off in front of the Winneshiek County Courthouse Thursday night featuring high quality ethnic activities, like a pageantry of flags, costumes, music, dancing and plenty of food booths along Water Street.

Elizabeth Lorentsen was introduced as Grand Marshall by Nikki Brevig. The local musical group, the Foot-Notes, were this year's recipient of the honorary flag.

Norma Wangsness, who has lived here for 49 years, carried the flag of Norway.
