Background: "Who is Dr. Ben Carson?"

Dr. Ben Carson, who will speak in Decorah Wednesday evening, is one of 16 people running for the Republican Party's presidential nomination.  The latest USA Today poll shows Carson in 6th place nationwide in support.

Dr. Carson is a Michigan native who attended The University of Michigan School of Medicine.  After graduating medical school, Carson and his wife Candy moved to Baltimore where he did his residency training at the Johns Hopkins University Medical Center.

Dr. Carson went on to direct pediatric neurosurgery at the Johns Hopkins Children's Center for 29 years.  During that time he also published eight books, including his autobiography,

Dr. Carson is now retired.  He has become very active in politics since his retirement.  He officially announced he was running for the Republican nomination for president on May 4th of this year.
