(Decorah resident Pavel Domnenko has submitted another Letter to the Editor about Decorah Swimming Pool admission charges, responding to a Letter to the Editor from Dwight Jones):
"Reading (Dwight Jones') response to my initial question definitely shed some light to the issue of swimming pool admission fees but being a former employee of the pool (I lifeguarded and taught swimming and diving there for multiple years) I still have to disagree with Mr. Jones.
Being a recent graduate with an extensive accounting degree, I am more than well aware of the finances that the pool is "losing." However, my question is this: if the city recognizes that the pool is such a "money loser," then why was the first priority to install a new slide before any major overhaul to make the pool more up to date/efficient? Are you telling me that every year the residents of Decorah and the surrounding areas who want to use the pool will continue to see increases in prices for an out of date pool?
And as a side note, although the river provides entertainment and fun to many of the local residents and is most certainly free let us not forget that the river can be a dangerous place to be as well. I personally have lost a close friend and co-worker in the exact river that Mr. Jones is referencing."
