Heavy rains dumped more than four inches on part of Winneshiek County on Monday, June 22nd. Winneshiek County officials have been trying since then to repair the damage.
Last Friday a staffer from the Iowa offices of the Homeland Security Administration visited Decorah to have a look at the damage done by the storm and the efforts to make repairs.
Winneshiek County Engineer Lee Bjerke says it has cost the county over $100,000 in stone and gravel alone for repairs. He says the total cost so far of the storm clean-up has been over $300,000 in Winneshiek County alone.
The Iowa officials now will add figures from Winneshiek County to figures from surrounding Iowa counties which also had problems June 22nd in an effort to get FEMA funding to help pay for the extra costs of storm-related repairs.
