What will Governor Branstad's disaster declaration for Winneshiek County mean?

Iowa Governor Terry Branstad's move to include Winneshiek County in a disaster emergency proclamation won't immediately mean much to the county, but it could help in the future.

The governor's proclamation allows state resources to be used to respond to and recover from the effects of severe storms and flooding June 24th.  However, it is usually true that if a disaster happens, it affects the availability of state resources, in addition to impacting county resources.

However, the governor's action now means an application can be made for federal disaster relief monies.  Those funds could help pay for repairs to roads and other facilities damaged in June 24th's heavy rains.
