An exhibition of new mixed media artworks by Decorah artist Lea Donhowe Lovelace is on display at The Perfect Edge and Impact Coffee Bar in Decorah.
Lovelace uses gelatin printing, coffee staining and sewing on paper to produce works that examine how, through the passing of time, we derive meaning from objects and associate these tangible items with memories.
"Having packed and moved ten times in my adult life, and having inherited many things passed down from generations before me along the way, I have had many opportunities to contemplate which objects have meaning to me, which objects had meaning to the past generations . . . and how I might negotiate these various assigned meanings without accumulating too many items to move, store, and pass on to the next generation."
Lovelace teaches in the Visual Performing Arts Department at Luther College and is co-founder of ArtHaus. Her work will be on display through the month of July.
