Mark asks Mr. Answer Person: "What's going on at the Decorah Community Prairie? Large patches have been mowed to the ground. Are they creating more trails?"
Mr. Answer Person says, "Unfortunately, it's nothing so enjoyable. The mowing is being done to control patches of crown vetch that have grown up in the prairie. Crown vetch looks pretty and can be a ground cover when controlled properly, but most people now consider the plant to be an invasive species.
The patches are an effort by Decorah Park-Rec to prevent crown vetch from taking over the Decorah Prairie."
