A Spillville man, Russell Baldner, has had three German Lutheran historical and linguistic works published in the Spring 2015 issue of Concordia Historical Institute Quarterly.

The publication is a journal devoted to the history of Lutheranism in America.

Two of the publications are based on historic, handwritten, nineteenth-century German Lutheran manuscripts drafted in an archaic and seldom-read German cursive script which Baldner deciphered and translated into English.  Over the years Baldner has deciphered German cursive script documents ranging in age from 100 to 500 years old, one of which was written in 1529 by Martin Luther.

In 2012, Concordia Historical Institute, St. Louis, Missouri, honored Baldner with an Award of Commendation for his previous year's publication and contribution to the history of Lutheranism in America. The current publications coincide with the 175th Anniversary of Concordia Seminary, St. Louis.
