Winneshiek County Sheriff Dan Marx says the intersection of Bluffton Road and 310th Street presents "a huge safety problem"--and Winneshiek County supervisors agree.
Marx and the supervisors on Monday discussed the steep hill that is just north of the intersection--and what could be done to make the intersection safer. For traffic heading north from 310th Street on the short cut to Bluffton Road, Marx says there is "no reaction time for either party" if a motorist is driving south on Bluffton Road when someone pulls onto Bluffton Road from the shortcut.
Supervisors agreed Monday that the best solution would be to continue to allow southbound traffic on the shortcut, but to make the shortcut one way only, posting "do not enter" signs for northbound traffic. That would force those motorists to continue driving east on 310th Street, then turning left onto Bluffton Road--at a much safer location.
