A citizens committee called "Decorah Fast Fiber" will hold an organizational meeting at 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 25th, at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall. Anyone interested in becoming involved with "Decorah Fast Fiber" committee's efforts is encouraged to attend.
The group plans to bring a petition to the Decorah City Council to encourage a referendum vote on the establishment of a municipal communications utility in Decorah.
This utility would build out from the current Metronet fiber optic loop that circles the city to provide fiber optic cable to the premises of businesses and homes in Decorah.
This utility would operate with locally owned, locally maintained equipment and staff to provide gigabit internet download speeds, utilizing the most current technologies.
Decorah Fast Fiber is looking for interested individuals to work towards this goal of what the group describes as "Faster, better, more reliable internet and cable."
