Winneshiek County Recycling has opened a new recycling option to the Locust Corner rural waste site. New recycling bins will be available for use 24 hours a day, seven days a week like all of the other recycling sites across the county.
Recycling is being added to this site in an effort to make recycling services more convenient for residents in the northern part of the county. It is also a more efficient use of tax dollars to process recyclable materials than to pay to dispose of an unsorted mixture of household garbage and recyclable items.
The hours for rural waste collection will stay the same--7:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
Financial assistance for the new bins was provided by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources Solid Waste Alternatives Program.
Winneshiek County Recycling Manager Terry Buenzow believes this new recycling site may be the most rural and remote recycling drop off site in the entire state of Iowa.
