The North Winneshiek Board Monday afternoon approved a resolution calling for the school to become a preschool through 6th grade facility for the 2017-2020 school years.
The unanimous vote will end the current 9th grade through 12th grade whole grade sharing agreement with Decorah when it expires on June 30th, 2017.
The North Winneshiek Board has moved to seek a new grade configuration for grades PS-6th grade while whole grade sharing the 7th-12th grades for the 2017-2018, 2018-2019 and 2019-2020 school years. North Winneshiek will maintain its own PS-6th grade school while sending out the 7th-12th grade students. North Winneshiek will transport all students (to school and home again) in 7th-12th grade who are under the whole grade agreement.
The North Winneshiek Board will be contacting the Decorah School Board in the near future to discuss work related to the new agreement.
School board president Brenda Kreizter noted that by taking this action now, "We have plenty of time to get this in place."
