Norwegians give a rousing welcome to the return of King Olav's 1951 Cadillac

Posted: Sun, Jun 7, 2015 3:42 PM

Norwegian King Olav's 1951 Cadillac Fleetwood 75 Limousine is now back in Norway.  King Olav used it for 40 years at major ceremonies in Norway, but he also liked to drive it around in private.

After King Olav died in 1991, the car was brought to the United States and wound up three years later on display at Vesterheim Museum.  In 2013 members of a Norwegian group that displays American cars came into contact with then Vesterheim board chairman Bill Cary, who negotiated an agreement to return the car to Norway.

On Saturday in Oslo, Norway, the Cadillac was on display.  A representative of "AMCAR," the Norwegian group of American car enthusiasts, told Norwegian TV, "As the car was a gift to AMCAR's nearly 18,000 members around the country..we're going out on a tour of Norway. It starts at Lillestrom with an official opening July 4th."
