Decorah couple die in traffic accident east of Cresco

Two Decorah residents have died in a Saturday morning traffic accident on Highway 9 and HIghway 139 two miles east of Cresco.

The Iowa State Patrol says 88-year-old Don Olsen and 82-year-old Wilma Olsen were stopped at a stop sign at the intersection just before 11:00 Saturday morning.  The State Patrol says Don Olsen pulled out into the path of a car driven by 75-year-old Gerald Ollendieck of Ridgeway and the Olsen's car was struck on the passenger's side.

Both Don and Wilma Olsen were killed in the accident.  Ollendieck was injured and was taken to the hospital at Regional Health Services of Howard County in Cresco.

The Iowa State Patrol was assisted by the Howard County Sheriff's Department, Winneshiek County Sheriff's Departmet, Cresco Police, Cresco EMS and Cresco Fire Department.
