The weekend was a busy one for area police

Decorah Police handled two traffic accidents and a shoplifting arrest Thursday and Saturday, while Winneshiek County Sheriff's Deputies made two drunk driving arrests on Friday and Sunday.

The Sheriff's Department says 19-year-old Sawyer Hand of West Union was arrested around 2:30 Sunday morning on HIghway 24 near Fort Atkinson and charged with drunk driving.  On Friday morning around 2:00, 19-year-old Andrew Sollien of Mabel was arrested on Highway 150 near the NICC campus and charged with drunk driving.

Meanwhile, Decorah Police arrested 57-year-old Gary Wiest of Decorah around 8:15 p.m. Thursday on charges of shoplifting around $275 in items from WalMart over the last four months.  He was charged with 4th degree theft, a serious misdemeanor.

Decorah Police also report that vehicles driven by 64-year-old Colleen Jarosh of Calmar and 32-year-old Donald Manderfield of Waucoma collided on Fifth Avenue at College drive around 11:00 Saturday morning.  The accident caused $3,000 in damages.  Neither driver was hurt and there were no injuries.  And a Thursday night accident at 7:20 caused $6,000 when cars driven by 21-year-old Susan McNichols of Niles, Illinois and 21-year-old Lloyd Lindsay of Decorah Collided on Highway 52 near Pulpit Rock Road.  Neither driver was ticketed.
