Members of the Decorah City Council spent an hour and a half Tuesday evening discussing issues outside of the conventional city council setting.
The special goal setting work session spent a fair amount of time discussing city spending and the methods used to put together a city budget. Council member Chuck Lore started the discussion by talking about the feedback he gets from the public that city spending needs to be reined in.
Other city council members were more interested in talking about the way the city budget gets put together. Budget preparation starts usually in January--but that is shortly after new city council members are seated.
Council members discussed ways of getting more advice from city department heads in the fall and being ahead of the curve when it comes to spending requests.
