Empty Bowls fundraiser raised almost $10,000

This year's Empty Bowls fundraiser raised $9,850.00 for local food justice programs, according to the event's organizers.

Of the amount raised, $2,500 went to First Lutheran and Decorah Lutheran food pantries, $1,000 each went to Farmers Market vouchers, Backpack Program (through Decorah Congregational UCC) and Decorah Community Meal; $500 went to Decorah Urban Gardens, and $1,350 went to provide for expenses and for a Food Security Intern  for 2016 through the Northeast Iowa Peace & Justice Center for the entire next year.

The Empty Bowls fundraiser was sponsored by the NEIPJC, The Depot Outlet, Hotel Winneshiek and the Oneota Community Food Co-op.
