(The following Letter to the Editor has been submitted by Rich Edwards of Decorah):
"In the last State House election, education funding was a major issue. Everyone knew there would be a battle in Des Moines and throughout Iowa on the allowable growth formula for our public schools. In my campaign I made it quite clear to anyone that I had talked to that I supported a minimum of 4 percent annual growth. On the advice of school administrators, teachers and our locally elected school board members, I supported responsible funding increases. Candidate Branhagen made it clear that he was for holding the line on education spending. There was no question on where each of us stood.
Of the over 12,000 votes cast in the 2014 election, Representative Branhagen won by 27 votes. The closeness showed a even split among the public in our district on issues like education. Does this not scream compromise rather than party line loyalty ??
Mr. Branhagen, it's time to represent the voters of your district and not others that paid for your campaign."
