The Decorah Municpal Swimming Pool is in need of a number of improvements, due to the age of the facility. Decorah Parks & Recreation Board members decided that replacing the water slide at the pool should be the #1 priority.
Two engineering firms have recommended not using the current water slide anymore. By getting the old slide out now, work can begin on the new slide as soon as the pool closes, thus making sure it is up and running by next summer. Terry Buenzow of Winneshiek County Recycling helped line up Clayton County Recycling to take the slide and reclaim and recycle as much as possible of the slide, at no cost to the city.
Over the next three to five years the Park-Rec Board is also considering making structural repairs to the bath house; adding more shade and seating to the pool deck; painting the facility; replacing diving boards; replacing the porpoise with a smaller toddler slide or feature; and addressing any aging mechanical issues
