Karen e-mails: "What is the status of resurfacing the North Winn road and has there been a current vehicle traffic count?"
Mr. Answer Person says: "North Winn Road certainly needs repaving. The question county officials are struggling with--the same question other governmental officials in Iowa are struggling with--is whether it's better to redo parts of a road or wait a little longer and redo the entire road. Yes, Iowa's road use tax got increased by 10 cents a gallon earlier this year, but there still are a lot of roads needing work and only so much money to go around--even if that is a bigger stack of money.
Winneshiek County officials haven't answered that scheduling question yet, but the project is definitely on the county's 5-year road plan. Plans call for tackling North Winn Road after work on Pole Line Road is finished. That means work on North Winn Road could begin as soon as JUly of next year, but I'd bet they will wait one year and do the project in Fiscal Year 2017, which would mean a start date of July of 2017.
