Decorah High School musical groups do well at Large Group Music Festivals

The Decorah High School bands and choirs performed Friday in the annual State Large Group Festival held in Decorah, while the Decorah High School orchestras performed on Saturday in Cedar Falls.

Ensembles perform for three judges and receive one of five divisional ratings for their performance: Division I "Superior" rating, Division II "Excellent" rating, Division III "Good" rating, Division IV "Fair" rating, Division V "Poor" rating. The ratings are based on a point scale.

Among instrumental groups, the DHS Symphonic Band received a division II rating and Wind Ensemble received a division I rating with one perfect score.  Among choral groups, Ninth Grade Choir was given a division II rating, Viking Chorus received a division I rating and Concert Choir got a division I rating with two perfect scores.  Among orchestral groups, Philharmonia received a division I rating, Symphony Strings was awarded a division II rating, and Full Orchestra got a Division II rating.
