Highway 52 accident does $5,000 in damages

Around 2:30 Sunday morning the Winneshiek County Sheriff's Office received a report of a single vehicle accident on Highway 52 north of the intersection with 190th Street, two miles north of Calmar.

The driver and only occupant, 21-year-old Samuel Meirick of Decorah, sustained non-life threatening injuries as a result of the crash after swerving to miss deer on the roadway, losing control of his vehicle, and entering the west ditch, partially rolling the vehicle.  Mierick was wearing his seatbelt which drastically helped reduce his injuries and contributed to saving his life.

Meirick's car sustained over $5,000 in damages.
