Founded in 2003, the Luther Ultimate Flying Disc Association has become a strong collegiate competitor in Ultimate Frisbee.
LUFDA has proven itself as one of the most successful club sports in Luther College history. This season might be one of its most successful.
Two men's teams, "Pound" and "Lufda," played in Ames last month at the conference meet and qualified for regionals in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, where they finished 7th.
The women's team, "Freya," also played in Ames last month at the conference meet and will be one of 16 teams playing in NCAA Division III Ulitmate Frisbee nationals for the first time in the team's history. The national contest will be held May 16th and 17th in Rockford, Illinois.
Ultimate has been described as a unique sport, largely in that it is refereed under the concept of the Spirit of the Game. Players are self-sufficient, coaching themselves and making their own calls on the field. Civil discussions between players build a sense of sportsmanship and allow players to create bonds not only with their own teammates, but with the players on other teams as well.
