(The following comment is by decorahnews.com's Paul Scott):

You might have noticed an increase in the number of police-related news stories posted in the past month or so on decorahnews.com.  That's because newly-appointed Winneshiek County Sheriff Dan Marx is making a point of giving information to the local news media about the workings of the Sheriff's Department.

Since Monday, April 13th, decorahnews.com has posted 13 news stories involving the Sheriff's Department.  We welcome this new emphasis on increased transparency, interaction and information-sharing with the public.

We want to stress, however, that our guidelines for news coverage on decorahnews.com have NOT changed.  We still post a news story about every traffic accident with over $2,500 in damages and every arrest made by police and disclosed to the public.

We do NOT withhold news stories involving police cases.  If there's something you know about involving city or county police and you haven't seen a news story on decorahnews.com about it, e-mail us at news@decorahnews.com and we'll do our very utmost to track it down.
