"100 Great Iowa Nurses" will be honored Sunday in Des Moines by representatives from the University of Iowa College of Nursing, the Iowa Nurses Association, the Iowa Nurses Foundation and the Iowa Hospital Association. Established in 2004, the program recognizes qualities that demonstrate efforts beyond those expected of a nurse within his/her normal duties, such as concern for humanity, significant contribution to the profession, and mentoring.
The honorees come from 36 Iowa counties and include Decorah resident Kevin Rockwell, who works at Central Community Hospital in Elkader, and Joann Boyer of St. Lucas, who works at Palmer Lutheran Health Center in West Union.
The 100 honorees were chosen from a pool of more than 350 individuals who were nominated by colleagues, patients, doctors, friends and family members.
