If someone wants to find information about a court case pending in Winneshiek County Circuit Court, they have to drive to the county courthouse, visit the Clerk of Courts Office and request the folder that physically contains printed copies of the information about the case.

Iowa Judicial Branch stafffer Scott Ruhnke told around 30 attorneys, clerks and law enforcement officers that the present system is "cumbersome."

But starting July 1st, people will be able to click on a website to get new information about court cases.  "E-filing" will begin then as Winneshiek County gets a system that is now in effect in almost all of the other counties in Iowa.

Ruhnke told his audience Wednesday afternoon that the experience in other counties has been that the system has worked well in other counties: "It is relatively easy to e-file," he said.

Workshops to teach the mechanics of how to e-file legal motions and documents in Winneshiek County will be held in May and June.  The Iowa Judicial System says the new e-filing system will become operational JUly 1st in Winneshiek County.
