The Decorah Community School Board has voted to opt out of a potential collaborative solar array project proposed by the Winneshiek Energy District.
Superintendent Mike Haluska told the school board that their legal counsel had advised against the project for two reasons--the money would need to come from general fund expenditures and the project would not be on District property. The District would also not reap the full benefits as would other entities. Haluska said the project could be reviewed if laws should change.
Other potential participants include Winneshiek Medical Center, NICC, City of Decorah and Winneshiek County.
