Two lawsuits filed by campground owner Deb Keefe may be dismissed in October

Winneshiek County supervisors on Monday got a status report on two lawsuits filed by Chimney Rock Campground owner.  One lawsuit is filed against the county's Board of Adjustment for denying a conditional use permit last year for Keefe; the second is a lawsuit against the County Planning & Zoning Commission and the County Board.

Since those lawsuits were filed, however, county officials have been drafted revised language regulating campgrounds.  Assistant County Attorney Steve Belay--who attends all Planning & Zoning Commission meetings--say the two sides have started doing a better job of working together.

Revisions to the county's zoning ordinances are expected to be completed in October.  Belay says conversations between Winneshiek County's attorneys and Keefe's attorney, Jim Burns, have indicated that the two lawsuits will be dismissed then--assuming a new conditional use permit is issued to Keefe.
