Northeast Iowa Community College President Dr. Liang Chee Wee was in Washington, D.C. on Friday as a guest at the White House "Upskill Summit."
Dr. Wee will be one of 150 employers, labor leaders, foundations, non-profits, educators and tech innovators from across America invited to the Summit.
Wee has been invited because of a $4.8 million federal H-1B Technical Skills Training Grant. NICC teamed up with Clarke University, Loras College and Southwest Wisconsin Technical College to develop information technology training with 17 regional business partners. By 2016, the initiative will train more than 2,000 workers who seek additional certifications and skills to advance along the information technology career pathway in a variety of industries.
Friday The White House will announce new commitments being made by public and private partners in response to a call to action launched by the President in January "to help workers of all ages earn a shot at better, higher-paying jobs, even if they don't have a higher education."
