Decorah Public Library has a seed lending library

Posted: Sun, Apr 12, 2015 6:53 PM

One of the programs run by the Decorah Public Library is a seed lending library.

The library's Seed Lending Library was started in 2013 with seeds supplied by Seed Savers, the Pepperfield Project and a few individuals.  Many of the varieties are unique or not usually available to the general public.

Since the first year, the supply has grown a bit, and, although the collection is predominantly vegetable seeds, some herbs and flowers are also available.

People who "borrow" seeds from the library make a commitment to save some seeds from their harvest and return them to the seed library, thus continuing the seed library.

For more information about the guidelines for donating seeds to the Seed Lending Library, contact Heidi Swets, Decorah Public Library, 382-3717 or youthservices@decorah.lib.ia.us.
