Should Jefferson County resident Tyler Webster get a new trial on second degree murder charges on the grounds of juror misconduct?  Iowa Supreme Court justices heard arguments on that issue Wednesday night.

The appeal centers on the actions of juror Susan Griffin, who did not disclose that she knew members of murder victim Buddy Frisby's family.  She also posted on Facebook, hitting the "Like" button when Frisby's mother wrote "Give me strength" on her Facebook page during the trial.

Appellate Defender Rachel Regnold argued that Griffin's actions showed she should not have been a juror in the case.  State of Iowa prosecutor Heather Mapes argued that Griffin felt she could be a fair juror, despite knowing some family members.  Chief Justice Mark Cady noted that state law gives "broad discretion" to judges in issues involving juror selection.

A ruling in the case is expected in June.
