Decorah Park-Rec is getting ready for prairie burns

Starting Tuesday prescribed prairie burns will take place on parts of the Decorah City Prairie and in Van Peenen Park.  The burns might take place through May 8th

Prescribed burns are used to discourage the growth of weeds and woody vegetation while promoting the growth of desired native vegetation in prairie restoration sites.  

Weather conditions are the major determination as to when the burns will take place.
