Police respond to accident at Ice Cave

Decorah Police say they were called to Ice Cave shortly after 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The male caller said a woman had fallen and possibly broken her ankle in the fall.  Decorah police officers, Decorah firefighters and the Winneshiek Medical Center Ambulance crew all responded to the scene.

Once there, they found out that a female had slipped on a slab of clear ice at the mouth of the cave and slid down into the cave.  They confirmed that she had broken her ankle.

Rescue crews then stabilized the woman's injury and got her out of the cave.  She was put into the ambluance and taken to Winneshiek Medical Center.
